Great news! Kellyane Conway has announced that Covid-19 is contained! Larry Kudlow has announced the virus has been locked up almost 100%! The President has discovered the real root of the crisis. It’s the latest Democrat Hoax!
Thank God! I thought because of my age and prior heart attack I was more at risk for a dire outcome, but it seems that is just nonsense.
Looking forward to the start of baseball season here in Richmond, VA. Take me out to the ballgame, take me out to the crowd…..
I work everyday with the public in a retail environment. For awhile I was concerned we’d see a slow down in traffic due to a now clearly overblown panic, but it seems that was a silly worry. Being in a high risk environment that has no analogous at-home option for income seemed like a potentially economically devestating situation for me. Phew. That has passed.
Amazing that the unfettered growth of the virus globally is irrelevant to our outcome here in the United States. Gotta be the leadership. Gotta be the early and vigorous response by the administration that is keeping it bottled up and a sideshow story here. As long as the bilge pumps keep working on the cruise ships, we’ll be fine!
While this sounds like a ludicrous bit of satire, these conversations are blossoming throughout right wing news and websites. Comments from true believers are reacting to the reportage of the administrations proclamations, not as betrayals of public trust but as gospel.
Fake news can kill you. And it will.
Brick and mortar retail is looking at a tough year. As the crisis matures and reaches its zenith, traffic in showrooms across the country will slow precipitously. Workers will have to stay home as they will be some of the most at risk people of the population, exposed to everyone and anyone all day, everyday. Most will have no leave to support them, and without it many will be relieved of their positions for absenteism. If they don’t lose their jobs that way, others will be let go because the traffic no longer supports the number of workers on payroll. It will be seen as a necessary lay-off.
Hospitals will be overrun. While the virus itself is currently estimated to ultimately require 200k intensive care unit admissions, the U.S. only has 100k of them in total, for all needs. Exactly 10 lbs in a 5 lb bag. Sixty-five thousand ventilators will be needed. That’s all we have. For all needs.
This information has been shared by the administration. No, not the mouthpieces like Pence and Trump, but the medical professionals actually trying to protect us. It’s available. It isn’t liberal. It isn’t fake.
It’s coming.
The only ones who are buying what is being sold by the President and his pool boy are the sadly ignorant attached to the right wing media sources. The right wing powerhouses are voting with their money, and they have decided to hoard it and get out of the market. They understand that this is not handled, not contained, not corraled 100% and will have broad and deep implications to the U.S. economy. A 2000 point drop in one day with a 15 minute freeze in trading after dropping nearly 4000 points over the previous two weeks is an undeniable statement of what Wall Street thinks is going on. I had a colleague say that it was merely a roller coaster, that it came up 1000 one day, too. It takes a very cynical village to manipulate people to be this myopic.
I wish I had a voice that could reach these poor people being led by a diabolical cabal that know exactly what they’re doing. They have created an army of soldiers that have been drafted to make the rich richer, though they have been convinced they are fighting for freedom.
When the inevitable occurs, a new narrative will be developed to divert responsibility away from the Cretin In Chief, and the faithful will still not wake up, still not understand that they are disposable pawns in a game they don’t even know they’re in. They are the Kleenex that wipes away allergins for the monied class, and are thrown away when used up.
This crisis would have occured no matter who was at the helm. That can not be denied. So did ebola, but the professionals were consulted from the outset, and the result was an all-points press that kept the results from devestation. Where the leadership disaster occurred with Covid-19 was at the first whisper of the outbreak in Wuhan. It was ignored and got a running start to create the impact it will now unquestionably have. We might have built hospitals, invested in a stockpile of ventilators, had testing kits ready and waiting to evaluate the incursion of the virus. Instead, the infrastructure for fighting these types of disruptions had been decimated by this president and we required an $8.3 billion emergency bill to be passed to address it.
Perhaps the grown-ups in the room will get a bill passed to pay the workers who are defenseless in this attack. There is talk of it, and it is essential to prevent a full-scale meltdown of the economy. Unemployed people historically spend a great deal less money, and we have created an economy that is completely dependent on growth to survive. Large scale job loss will be devestating and must be avoided.
Such a bill, it should be noted, will cause an explosion of the debt and thus the deficit, which has already been doubled under this president. We have reduced federal revenue dramatically through tax cuts for money hoarders, and have spent billions we don’t have on military expansion we don’t need.
And now this.
Times like these are why we need strong revenue. The infrastructure of the country crumbling into rivers is why we need strong revenue. Flood walls made of sand bags are why we need strong revenue. Facing a pandemic is why we need strong revenue. A decrepit, antiquated and vulnerable power grid is why we need strong revenue.
The private sector doesn’t address any of these things.
Sorry, Ronnie. Sometimes government IS the solution.
Just not this government.
Vote.
