Joe Knows Politics

Stalemate. No matter who you support you will have enough justification to believe your candidate won the debate. Nothing will change on Tuesday. Bernie made his case, that it’s about the money, but he has made it before and it certainly wasn’t the breakthrough performance he needed to stem the tide. He’s right, of course, but this isn’t about that. Joe will have a woman VP! He will nominate a black woman for supreme court Read more…

Donna Summer or Doug Flutie?

Last Dance or Hail Mary? Pick a metaphor Bernie. It’s all on the table tonight. Senator Sanders will take the last debate as far as he can, looking for a knock-out and hoping for a disastrous mistake by Joe. The latter seems less likely than it once did. Biden has seemingly taken a fountain of youth potion since South Carolina, being more energized, focused and thoroughly in control. It has been a huge contrast from Read more…

Just Maybe…

My URL is intended to be double speak, winking at gradually getting older while implying my progressive roots and aspirations. Time for some aspirational exercise. There is the slimmest possibility that in this difficult time for the country some realization that we are all in this together will germinate, even flower. Progressives have never been the enemy. They are, at the very root of it all, for everyone. There should be no club, no entry Read more…

Your “WalMart” Is Coming

My, but we Americans are a hearty bunch. In spite of readily available information agressively broadcast, global outcomes that repeat themselves from country to country that can be seen and studied, we maintain the Myth of Exceptionalism even at our own peril. Sure, Italy is a mess, but that won’t happen here! This is America. That’s crazy! So today I interacted with countless people that acted as though they were watching a reality show, and Read more…

Deep Hero

Another day goes by. We are down to four states with no reported cases. They will soon lose their distinction. Financial news and futures are worse. I’m feeling bleak, if I’m honest, and I think I could easily justify the mood, but I won’t. I’m going to push back instead and look for light. There will be heroes to spare as we really get into this, everyday heroes that go into harms way for a Read more…

Getting Woke

The NBA has suspended its’ season. The NCAA tournament will be played without spectators. Does that sound like the flu? I spent the day in close contact with the public and my colleagues and was appalled at the number of people who were poo-pooing the novel coronavirus as an overblown sack o’ nothin’. This is a health crisis that has been exacerbated by a thoroughly bungled response to it by a corrupt and inept administration. Read more…

The Fifth Step, Acceptance

In a previous post today I may have gotten one thing wrong. I assumed Bernie would win Washington. I don’t think he will. It’s midnight and they are statistically tied which is a very ugly proposition for the senator. The rest I kind of saw coming. It is a pretty sound drubbing, decisive I think. Consolidation right before your very eyes. It seems like turnout was high for the second week in a row and Read more…

There’s already a 3rd Party

By the end of today over 20 states will have voted in the 2020 Democratic primary. In 8 or so hours we may have a very good idea of where all of this is going. But what if you had an election and nobody came? How the coronavirus is going to effect turnout today is unknown, but it will be a factor from now on, through the primaries and right on through the general election. Read more…

What You Don’t Know Can Kill You

Great news! Kellyane Conway has announced that Covid-19 is contained! Larry Kudlow has announced the virus has been locked up almost 100%! The President has discovered the real root of the crisis. It’s the latest Democrat Hoax! Thank God! I thought because of my age and prior heart attack I was more at risk for a dire outcome, but it seems that is just nonsense. Looking forward to the start of baseball season here in Read more…

Fly Your Flag!

I’m starting a movement and I’m inviting you to join. If you are an older progressive like me, this will be a return to our roots, nostalgia as activism. For the youngsters among us this will allow a certain unity between generations, a connection with an older generation that isn’t unilaterally aligned against them. When I say goodbye to someone, I say “Peace” and flash them the victory peace sign. It feels right. It is Read more…
