Remember that little Party get together in Dallas I mentioned the other day? Tonight the fruits ripened for Joe.
No matter what happens at the end of the day (it’s10pm EST now) Bernie lost the night. States that did not seem to be in contention have unmercifully gone into the loss column. Polls were swept aside seemingly overnight.
And there wasn’t anything he could do about it. Great theatre will beat great lectures every time, and the Biden campaign produced an overnight hit. It swept the country in a whirlwind and here we are.
But beware, Joe Bros. It turned on a dime. It’s never over. Now you know how quickly it can change. Four days ago we were flying on the Bernie Express and now there’s an engine sputtering.
Was it the DNC coordinating the consolidation or was it candidate driven? When we succeed in overturning the corporate party we can investigate this as evidence, but in the meantime, we are here. The next months are a dogfight. Liz Warren has hopes of being the compromise candidate at a brokered convention at loggerheads. If the most extreme of long-shot fantasies does not materialize, she will be villified by the left and a hero to moderates for a very long time.
Something changed at that rally. There were polls after South Carolina, but I didn’t see any after the rally. But something sure did change. Bernie put his happy face on tonight in his speech to his homies in Vermont, but it was a pounding. He has to reset and try to regain the momentum, somehow, some way.
The next debate is critical. Let the games begin.
